Nuri Bilge Ceylan will appear in Cannes with the movie "Bir Zamanlar Anadolu (Once upon a time in Anatolia)" for the Golden Palm Award which he has once won for the movie "Üç Maymun(Three Monkeys)". Among the rivals there are some important figures like Almodovar, Malick, Von Trier and Dardenne brothers.
19 films have been selected for the final decision in Cannes Film Festival which is considered as the most important leg among all the film festivals in Europe.
Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan has been chosen to run for Golden Palm Award for the movie "Bir Zamanlar Anadolu(Once Upon A Time in Anatolia)" which Yılmaz Erdoğan and Taner Birsel take the leading roles in.
The most remarkable rival of Ceylan is the film which was directed by Pedro Almodovar ,"The Skin That I Inhabit" and also another film which was directed by Terrence Malick, "Tree of Life" is also shown as the favourite of the 64.Cannes Film Festival.
It seems like that the Danish famous director Lars Von Trier name will be mentioned for the film "Meloncholia' again. The film "Set Me Free" is also mentioned "close" to winning the award.
Antonio Banderas, Brad Pitt and Yılmaz Erdoğan
Almodovar's ace in the film is Antonio Banderas, Malick's ace is Brad Pitt. Ceylan has Yılmaz Erdoğan against these two reputable figures.
Among 1715 movies only 19 of these could remain for the final decision and there will be special events arranged for Japan, Tunisia and Egypt.
Awards will be going to the winners on May 11 with a special ceremony in French Riviera.
The chief of the jurry chair will be held by American actor and director Robert de Niro.
A part of the latest comedy movie of Woody Allen, "Midnight in Paris" will be shown during the festival opening.
Ceylan is after the third prize
Director Ceylan has won the Grand Jury Award for the film "Uzak (Far Away)" and the Best Director Award for "Üç Maymun(Three Monkeys)" before.
Ceylan gained the sympathy in Turkey and Europe with a speech which he gave after he won the Best Director Award;"I devote this award to my lonely and beautiful country."
